Shipping Chocolate In Hot Weather
This is how we package, protect and ship your Chocolate Coated Coffee Beans and Chocolate Delights to you.
These procedures work wonders - and they don't cost you an extra cent for "hot weather protection" either!
While this is important when we send chocolate to you, it is possibly even MORE critical if you are shipping to a loved one in another location. You want your gift to arrive in top condition!
So here is how we protect your chocolate both at our place and as it travels to you.
Storing Your Chocolate
Chocolate should be stored in a nice cool place. So at our place we are a bit extreme just so you receive the very best.
Your chocolate is stored at around 18-20 degrees Centigrade and below 60% Relative Humidity in our Chocolate Storage Room.
This is constantly monitored to keep it in top condition, ready for shipping out to you!
Chocolate holds its temperature quite well so warms only very slowly as it travels to you from this nice cool environment.
The perfect beginning to its new (short) life at your place!
Wrapping for Shipment
When we receive your chocolate order we carefully wrap it in metalised bubble wrap.
The bubbles give it protection from damage and the metal coating gives considerable protection against heat.
Then we carefully "heat seal" right around your yummy chocolate delights!
"Heat sealing" seals in the cool dry air and also means that warm air can't get into the enclosure as the package flexes while travelling.
This is excellent protection!
Sometimes we even DOUBLE wrap your order if we have any concerns. This is an extra precaution "just in case".
Checking the Weather
Before your package leaves, we check expected weather between were we are and where you are. And points in between as well if there could be "stop-overs" for your chocolate!
This is really easy - yet critical too!
We use the Australian Bureau of Meteorology "app" on our iPhones and iPads. It's a VERY cool app from Shifty Jelly.
We use it to check the tides when we plan to take Misty, our Jack Russell Terrier for a swim too so her paws don't get too muddy on a low tide.
Here is an example of the weather expected for an order just received. It's destined for Perth, WA and we're in Jannali, NSW.
You can see that although the temperature near us in Jannali is "good to go", the weather in Perth where our Customer is, is getting hot in the next few days.
Today is Friday so if we mail today our Customer's Captain Coffee chocolates would need to endure a weekend in a hot Western Australian Post Office.
So in this instance we will ship on Monday for an expected Tuesday delivery. Unless things "heat up" in WA over the weekend in which case we'll give our Customer a quick call to let her know what we think - and what she wants too.
Usually there are no delays and you'll get your order quickly!
Captain Coffee uses THREE primary methods to ship.
- Regular "Australia Post" delivery - usually in a bag - sometimes in a box.
- Express Post Delivery
- Fastway Couriers
If you are local to us we might even drop in! We prefer coffee to tea please...
At this time we decide which to use depending on a number of factors.
In general if you are north of Brisbane or in South Australia or Western Australia we'll probably use Express Post simply as we want it there as fast as possible.
You don't pay any more - Captain Coffee just wants to delight you!
We Ship Chocolate Late in the Day
We always ship as late in the day as we can. The staff at Jannali Post Office and the local Fastway Courier driver both help us out there.
This means that your order travels at night when it is cool.
We call this "cool running". (Did you like the film?)
"Please Protect - Chocolate" Labels
We figure that your local postie or Fastway driver is cheerful and wants you happy too!
So we pop a "CHOCOLATE - PLEASE PROTECT! label on your package too.
On the front AND on the back!
That way your "locals" know and can help us both out (as long as they resist temptation).
If you have a special request we will do all we can to assist.
Usually this is "Please leave out of sun on front porch" or similar. Of course we can only ask your local Postie or Driver - they are usually pretty good!
We did have a request to pack carefully as the local possums were a bit too curious.
So we packaged carefully, created a the special sticker (to the left) and arranged a personal delivery late in the day just before the family arrived home (the Customer was local).
The possums never stood a chance and not a single chocolate was lost!
That's How We Look After You!
Of course we HAVE had the occasional problem but that is rare.
Even when shipping into the Outback or Northern Territory our shipping system works - without your having to purchase special "hot weather shipping packs".
If you DO have a problem, contact us so we can discuss.
You will be welcome - we WANT to know - so we can address any issue and figure out how to take care of it!
Our phone is 02-9589-2000 or send us a message.
